When we first
moved out to the coast from the prairies in 1990 and settled
in the Coquitlam area, we immediately fell in love with the
beauty that surrounded us. Our young daughter at that time was
taking Horse back riding lessons in a little village nearby,
a small finger of land nestled between Coquitlam and Port Moody,
bordering on Provincial Park. It was at this time, we decided,
if ever we were in a position to build our dream home, it would
be here. |
The Village
of Anmore, an undiscovered jewel in one of the suburbs of Vancouver,
home to just over 1800 residents, home to Buntzen Lake, a fresh
water lake surrounded by shoreline and mountain trails, picnic
grounds, boat rentals, summer swimming, and encompassing the
magnificence of nature at its best.
A retreat where the mountains touch the stars, where the deer
still roam and the odd black bear comes to call. This is our
home.

As life has
a way of passing by, our three children suddenly became young
adults and two recently moved out. Suddenly left without a houseful
of teenagers and their friends to cook for and clean up after,
we felt a void that had to be filled. |

| Both my husband
and I have been in the sales and marketing industry for over
30 years. Our pleasure in connecting with people, entertaining
and welcoming people into our home seemed a natural fit in our
early retirement. During the six years that we have lived here,
our home has hosted numerous large events and has seen hundreds
of people through our doors. As an entry in the prestigious
Georgie Awards several years ago, it has attracted a lot of
attention in its most unusual contemporary design and attention
to detail throughout. The many amenities the property has to
offer make it an ideal place to stay, unwind, and enjoy the
surrounding area. A retreat is really a more appropriate term
for this luxury accommodation. |

My extensive
background in cooking, adds much to our Silver Door retreat.
Having studied four years in the Faculty of Home Economics with
a specialty in Housing and Kitchen Design and focusing on Foods
and Nutrition, in addition to culinary studies abroad (La Varenne
in Paris, France, The Cordon Bleu in London, England, Marcella
Hazan in Bologna, Italy, Umberto's Villa Delia in Tuscanny and
a guest at the Chef's Hotel school in Lausanne, Switzerland)
make it a most natural pairing to welcome guests to our home.
Delicious breakfasts, homemade jams and jellies, fresh produce
from our own gardens when in season, and cobblers and pies made
from our fruit trees will delight one and all.. |
| One of my dreams
when I designed my commercial kitchen was to hold culinary classes.
As a previous owner and operator of three gourmet kitchen stores
in Winnipeg, Manitoba (The Peppermill Ltd.,The Salt Mill, Coq
A Vin) resulting in cooking demonstrations and a newsletter
that went out regularly to over 1000 people, and food writer
for The Winnipeg Magazine for 3 1/2 years, the combination of
a place to stay and participate in cooking classes at the same
time would become an added attraction. It seemed only natural
that we opened up our home to a Bed and Breakfast. The Culinary
Classes soon to follow. |

I chose the name The Silver Door because the
two silver doors at our front entrance greet people and welcome
them to our home. The color silver denotes an air of sophistication
and excellence and defines the exemplary service and amenities
that you will find.
Come, see what we have to offer, and, stay
awhile........
